ABOUT RAPTORKIDS

RaptorKids is a digital training and mentorship program targeted at kids from the ages of 10 to 15 years. The training covers programs such as coding, App and game development with a hackathon at the end as a boost for excellence.

The program was started with a demo cohort in November 2017. The kids went through four weeks coding program and the desire, results, testimonies and impact from participants, parents and children was amazing and inspiring. Due to inadequate funds, we could not accept the needed number into the program for the demo cohorts and we could not cover the entire program content. The next cohort was organised in 2018 where participants were taking through the entire program with a much greater impact; children developed their own digital platforms such as games.

The program is expected to build a community of young web developers, app developers and educational game developers who will start the process of building digital solutions at the early stage.

Our motivation started from seeing a number of these curious kids in our community moving to gaming centers and trying to explore the use of digital function on phones and computers and we thought it was important to harness this energy for the best use. Our last two cohorts have been motivating.

PROGRAM TARGET

The program is targeted at children between the ages of 10 and 15 who are mostly in primary and junior high schools in our communities. This session will be open to 30 participants.

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS

The program will improve learning in children through logic, reasoning and capacity development. The consequential impact on social vices and the times of visiting game centres and blindly exploring digital functions will gradually become a thing of the past as children will be equipped with the skills to explore and develop digital solutions whiles keeping up with interesting trends in the technology space. This Summarises our goal for organising RAPTORKIDS.

This is an opportunity for partners to associate with a proactive program that targets the most

vulnerable in our society; kids. Apart from giving CSR leverage, it could also be a connection point to the market (mostly parents and guidance) and other interested community support groups such as the International community and government.

MODULE CONTENT

The program is a total of six (6) months training and mentorship, that is preceded by a community engagement forum where partners, participants, facilitators and other interested parties such as parents and schools will converge to engage and express expectations.

It will end with a Hackathon for the participants to present either a website, an App or a game they have developed and deserving participants will be given awards and prices whiles each participant is given a certificate of participation. The module is planned to start in April 2019 and end in September 2019.

*The training timetable contain three (3) hours of training with one-hour break from 10:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 2:00pm. The timetable may change during vacation where students will train daily. They will also have access to the hub throughout the program.
